Rosemary Maina Nyambura, a Kenyan national residing in Bweyogerere, Kampala District, appeared before Senior Magistrate Edgar Tibayeita Tusiime at the Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, and was charged with theft.
According to the charge sheet, Nyambura and accomplices, still at large, stole a bag from a passenger on March 30, 2025, at the airport’s car park in Wakiso District.
According to a report by Monitor, the bag contained an HP laptop, a charger, eyeglasses, and a German passport, among other valuables.
How did Nyambura allegedly steal foreigner's bag?
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) spokesperson, Vianney Luggya, revealed that the theft was part of an organised scheme involving two Kenyan nationals and a Ugandan.
The suspects distracted the victim's driver with unrelated questions while their accomplices stole the bag.
After swift investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage, Nyambura was arrested and charged.
"The victim, a foreigner who had just arrived in the country, was being assisted by a driver to load luggage into his car. The woman distracted the driver with unrelated questions while her two accomplices took the bag containing various items.
