Who killed MP Charles Ng'ondo Were?

The ODM lawmaker was shot dead by unknown assailants on Wednesday, April 30, along Ngong Road.

It has emerged that the lawmaker was riding in a Toyota Crown vehicle when two men riding on a motorcycle attacked him near the City Mortuary roundabout.

Eyewitnesses said the pillion passenger dismounted, approached the car, shattered the window, and fired fatal shots at close range before fleeing the scene.

Citizen TV shared images and video of the bullet-riddled vehicle the ODM lawmaker was riding in when the gunmen accosted him.

From the photos, it appears the lawmaker was seated in the passenger's seat when he was shot.

The video shows documents inside the vehicle, including a parliamentary paper. Notably, the MP was coming from the National Assembly when the incident happened.

Officers who inspected the vehicle disclosed that around 6 rounds of shots were fired at the lawmaker.

Officers say the precision with which the shots were taken means that this was a very well-trained assassin.

The driver and bodyguard, who were with the Kasipul lawmaker at the time of the incident, were not hurt.

Leaders, including President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, have mourned the MP and called for investigations to bring the assassin to justice.

In related development, the National Police Service (NPS) disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the attack was both deliberate and carefully planned.

Senior police commanders and detectives launched investigations after securing the scene to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the assassination.

NPS urged members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Witnesses were urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) via the toll-free number 0800 722 203.

Why was Charles Ong'ondo Were killed?

Meanwhile, Homa Bay MP Lilian Achieng' Gogo provided insights regarding the potential motives behind the shocking murder of the Kasipul lawmaker.

In a discussion with Citizen TV, Gogo indicated that local politics might have influenced his murder.

She disclosed that Were had received life-threatening messages prior to his passing and had alerted both the public and the DCI about his safety issues.

Gogo further highlighted that the hostile political atmosphere in Homa Bay played a role in the Kasipul MP's death, calling on the government to intervene and prevent future tragedies under similar circumstances.
