Margaret Were said that the adversaries had extended their dragnet to other members of the deceased's lawmaker's immediate family.

Why MP Were's widow is worried

Addressing mourners at Were's home in Kasipul, Margaret said she was fearing for her life, especially after the killing of her husband.

She revealed that prior to the MP's murder, she herself had been a target of unknown attackers.

Margaret said she escaped a planned attack when on her way to work in Nairobi.

She condemned the killers of her husband, demanding justice be served as soon as possible.

"Whoever did this! I have also been followed twice while going to work. I know I am not safe. Please pray for me," she said.

At the same time, the widow appreciated the heavy task ahead of her to steward the family in her husband's absence.

She regretted that her young family won't grow with a patriarch it needed the most.

The widow seemed to court support from her in-laws, whom she promised to coexist with peacefully even after their kin's death.

"The MP left a very young family. He has left very huge shoes for me to fit into. My youngest girl is in Grade 9 at Moi Kabarak. Please pray for her to continue holding this family. To my in-laws, I love you all. We will continue living like we did before the MP's death," she said.

How Charles Ong'ondo Were met his death

Ong'ondo met his tragic end on Wednesday evening, April 30, shortly after departing the National Assembly, where he had attended that day's afternoon session.

He was picked up from Parliament Buildings at 7:15pm by his driver and bodyguard.

Meanwhile, the attackers, who had boarded a sports bike, seemed to have been waiting for him outside the parliamentary precincts.

Ong'ondo's first stop after leaving parliament was an M-Pesa outlet on Wabera Street, to which he sent his bodyguard as he waited in the car.

They later proceeded to exit the city toward Ngong Road through Valley Road.

All the while, the attackers were in tow, stopping whenever the car did throughout the traffic up to the City Mortuary Roundabout, where one of them dismounted from the bike and charged toward where the car was.

They then opened fire indiscriminately, aiming at the MP’s seat; they took off immediately after several gunshots.

The MP's driver and bodyguard rushed him to The Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Ong'ondo, at the time of the shooting, was being driven in his son's vehicle, a Toyota Crown.

He abandoned his official vehicle that day, perhaps to evade his attackers.
