Kenya Power Announces Areas to Experience Electricity Interruption on Friday, May 23

  • Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) will carry out routine maintenance on Friday, May 23, which will result in electricity outages across six counties.
  • The utility has advised residents and businesses to prepare for full-day power interruptions starting at 8am
  • According to the schedule released by KPLC, the counties to be affected are Nairobi, Homa Bay, Nyeri, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru and Taita Taveta

Nairobi — Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued an early notice to residents and businesses across six counties regarding planned system maintenance on Friday, May 23.

According to KPLC, the interruption in electricity supply is part of their network maintenance programme.

"Good evening. The listed areas will be affected by planned power interruptions Friday, May 232025). The interruption is part of network maintenance. For the advanced notice, use http://bit.ly/31u4jY4. To access the latest schedule, check under the most recent date," Kenya Power said.

During maintenance, which involves connecting new customers to the national grid and upgrading power lines, KPLC usually turns off the supply of electricity.

The counties to be affected are Nairobi, Nyeri, Homa Bay, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu and Taita Taveta.

1. Nairobi County

Area: Isaac Gathanju Road (9am-5pm)

Naurid Merali Road, Part of Maji Mazuri, Tiles and Carpet Centre, Part of James Gichuru, Lavington Curve, Jeffery Club and adjacent customers.

2. Nakuru County

Area: Part of Rongai Town (9am-5pm)

Kandutura, Waka Centre, Kware, Thirandu, Kapwen, Rongai Pri, Arasa Centre, BP Flora, Kimangu and adjacent customers

3. Uasin Gishu County

Area: Cheptiret, Bayete, Lorian (8am-5pm)

Cheptiret, Kapkoiga, Kerita, Lorian, Kapkoi, Kiptanui Farm, Koiluget, Rurigi, Kaptumo and adjacent customers.

Area: Moiben Centre, Kabomoi (8am-5pm)

Moiben Centre, Kabomoi, Chebororwa Girls, Kokwet, Kapsigilai, Meibeki, Cheukta, Kapmaram, Kiboroum and adjacent customers.

4. Homa Bay County

Area: Gendia, Kosele, Karabok (8am-4pm)

Sikri Vocational Training, Mikai Market, Ober High School, Otel Primary and Secondary, Kakelo Secondary School, Dudi Girls, Atemo Water Supply, Atemo Sec, Owalo Market, Ringa Market, Kadongo Market, Mawego National Polytechnic, Lida Market, Bware Market, Ramula DO’s Office, Oriang Complex, Okok Girls, Othoro Mkt, Kodada Centre and adjacent customers.

5. Nyeri County

Area: Kigogoini, Gacuiro (9am-5pm)

Kigogoini, Wandumbi, Cuba, Kiriti Secondary, Kamahuru TBC, Kamakia, Gacuiro and adjacent customers.

6. Taita Taveta County

Area: Part of Loitoktok, Mwatate (9am-5pm)

Sarova and Salt Lick Lodges & Hotels, Mwashuma, Bura, Nyolo, Zare, the Whole of Kamtonga, Chungaunga and adjacent customers.
