Babu seeks to unseat Governor Johnson Sakaja in the 2027 vote.

Why Babu Owino is against Governor Sakaja's tenure

For the longest time, the lawmaker has poked holes in Sakaja's tenure at City Hall, arguing that the latter's style of leadership does not befit the status of Nairobi.

According to Babu, the governor does not need another term beyond 2027 for supposedly having run down the city.

He accused the government of maladministration and failure to enhance mechanisms for the county to realise its total potential in own-revenue sourcing.

Babu often accuses Sakaja of overseeing corruption at City Hall, adding that the city county has been lagging behind other devolved units that are ordinarily considered as average.

He also argues that Sakaja has not done enough in the county's own-source revenue, pointing at the likes of Narok county are doing better than the city.

Meanwhile, as Babu presses with his onslaught, Sakaja has been seeming to gravitate toward ODM boss Raila Odinga, perhaps to seek support for reelection.

Raila is known to have a significant influence in Nairobi, as evidenced by the number of elected leaders in the county.

For instance, MCAs elected on ODM tickets outnumber those from Sakaja's party, UDA.

Why Raila is at fault for supporting Sakaja

Raila has seemed to embrace the governor, even at some point referring to him as "my son for Nairobi".

However, Babu is opposed to the relations, arguing that Sakaja has never stood with Raila in his past political undertakings.

The MP said the county boss is not genuine in his pursuit of a friendship with Raila.

Drawing a comparison to a typical household, the MP emphasised that Sakaja had previously opposed Raila’s presidential campaigns, suggesting that the ODM boss should be discerning about who his true supporters are.

Babu argued that Sakaja’s newfound alliance with Raila lacks sincerity and is driven purely by personal gain.
