The president almost lost his footing after a woman from Soweto in Kibera unexpectedly reached out and firmly grabbed his hand while attempting to draw the attention of the Head of State.

A video capturing the exact moment surfaced, showing Ruto briefly struggling to maintain his balance due to the sudden force the woman used as she pulled him towards her.

It was at that moment that the woman, who was dressed in a shuka and wore her dreadlocks loose, reached out and caught Ruto’s hand unannounced.
She then pulled him strongly while he remained surrounded by leaders and his security detail, nearly toppling him in the process.
Following the unexpected grab, the president’s security swiftly moved in to contain the situation, and though visibly surprised, Ruto graciously extended a more composed and official handshake.
Jalang’o, who was walking directly beside Ruto, also appeared visibly shaken by the moment, pausing briefly and then raising his arm in a calming gesture towards the cheerful crowd.

Ruto's pledge to transform slums
The president pledged to transform slums in Kibera and other slums in Nairobi in his attempt to give residents dignified housing.
In 2024, the president announced that 1000 affordable housing units would be available for Kenyans living in the slums.
He added that his government was committed to lifting the livelihoods, especially of those underprivileged.
