Did police abduct MP George Koimburi?

In a statement on Monday, May 26, police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga dismissed claims that security officers abducted and tortured the lawmaker before dumping him at a coffee plantation in Kiambu

Ngaga stated that the Juja lawmaker had deliberately evaded arrest in connection with an ongoing land fraud investigation.

The police service stated that Koimburi went into hiding after learning that officers planned to arrest him on Friday, May 23, following authorisation from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to press charges.

“The MP, having been fully aware of police intentions to arrest him, evaded a dragnet and duped officers by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security and switched off his mobile phone,” Nyaga said.

According to NPS, the Juja MP, who remained out of reach over the weekend, resurfaced on Monday amid the abduction allegations.

Now, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is investigating the amateur video to ascertain the truth behind the alleged abduction.

Police say officers from Juja visited the location shown in the video, and the scene has been 'properly documented' to help with the investigation.

"The MP resurfaced today amid claims of abduction. Police from Juja visited the alleged scene and documented it. A special team from DCI headquarters is investigating the amateur video and all circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction," Nyaga said.

Was MP George Koimburi tortured?

In related news, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and several leaders from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) visited Koimburi at Karen Hospital.

Speaking to the press, Gachagua said doctors had confirmed that the Juja lawmaker suffered soft tissue injuries caused by professional torture.

The former deputy president also alleged that Koimburi was injected with a lethal chemical substance, which has affected his ability to speak.

Gachagua explained that Koimburi communicated the details in writing, as he is currently unable to speak.

The DCP leader added that blood and urine samples from Koimburi have been sent to private laboratories for further analysis to determine the substance involved.
