George Koimburi: Caretaker of Coffee Farm Juja MP Was Found in Speaks, Denies Seeing Abductors
- The police suggest that George Koimburi's alleged abduction could be a political spectacle and that so far, there are no facts to establish he was indeed disappeared by state security
- Koimburi, who is the MP for Juja, was reportedly found in a coffee plantation in Kiambu after days of going missing

Police are keenly piecing together evidence in establishing the facts being the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.

The lawmaker was reportedly found unconscious in a coffee farm in Juja on Monday, May 26.
An amateur video would later emerge on social media showing the lawmaker being picked up in a car purportedly from the farm.
He was taken to a nearby health facility and later to The Karen Hospital, where he is currently admitted and on treatment.

What did caretaker of coffee farm tell police?
The police took over the matter and immediately embarked on probing the circumstances of the MP's supposed disappearance and reappearance.
Among the persons of interest the police sought relevant accounts from was the caretaker of the farm owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.
The investigators also sought to compare the coffee background in the amateur video and on the farm.
They established that the locations did not match.
Further, according to the police, the caretaker confided in them that all had been calm at the farm and that there were no traces of movements even before and after the MP was reported to have been found.
"Police officers from Juja swiftly responded, visiting the alleged scene and thoroughly documenting the area. Upon comparing the vegetation and road dimensions at the scene with those in the video, it was established that the two did not match. During questioning, Moses Kariuki, the caretaker of the coffee farm, which is owned by one Jimmy Wanjigi, stated that he had not witnessed such an incident," partly read the statement of the police.

Meanwhile, the police, who had earlier denied involvement in the MP's disappearance, established that the vehicle in use between the scene where he was picked up and the hospital he was rushed to, belonged to Koimburi, and that one of the first responders was his driver.

However, the police efforts to gather evidence from the hospital where the MP was first booked before the referral to The Karen Hospital were unsuccessful, as the medics refused to divulge the crucial details.
"The officers then proceeded to Plainview Hospital in Ruiru, where the Member of Parliament had reportedly been taken for treatment. They confirmed that the vehicle used to transport him, registration number KCJ 660P belonged to George Koimburi and was driven by Frida Njeri, who was also the first responder at the alleged crime scene. The hospital did not disclose the nature of the treatment or first aid administered, making it difficult to assess the extent of the alleged injuries," the police said.
Despite the politics around the matter, the police vowed to observe professionalism while probing it with the intent of getting closure.
Further, they said they would bring to justice anyone found culpable in the MP's alleged disappearance.
"We will continue to pursue all leads, analyse forensic evidence, and ensure that any perpetrators are brought to justice."
Did George Koimburi evade arrest?
In the meantime, the police said that the MP was aware of his impending arrest when he went missing on Friday, May 23.
He was to be taken to face charges related to land fraud as approved by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
According to the police, aware of the apprehension that was to be effected, Koimburi jumped on a motorcycle and fled an event he was presiding over in his constituency, thereafter switching his mobile phone off.
His driver was instead taken to the DCI headquarters, where he recorded a statement and was later released.
The police reiterated that their probe into the MP's alleged abduction would be independent of the charges he is facing.
How did Koimburi's allies react to police statement?
A section of politicians from the Opposition castigated the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, for allegedly giving misleading information regarding Koimburi's abduction.
Former Public Service CS Justin Muturi accused Kanja of attempting to cover up "a clear case of abduction" to save the face of the police.
Similar sentiments were shared by Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who described IG Kanja's statement as unfortunate.
