Erastus Ethekon faced the National Assembly's Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) on Saturday, May 31, when his suitability to lead the commission was assessed.
What is source of Ezekiel Ethekon's wealth
As a question of integrity and concerns over potential abuse of office for gainful benefits, the committee sought to know the assets and property owned by the nominee.
He revealed that his assets were mainly comprised of parcels of land, livestock, motorvehicle and cars, among others.
Ethekon explained that his wealth was sourced from his salary from his role as the Turkana county attorney and roles with the African Union agencies.
"My net worth is estimated at KSh 276,882,237 made up of mainly assets, land, livestock, some Safaricoom shares and motor vehicles. Currently, my sources of income are from my earnings from the African Union Development Agency. The county government of Turkana still owes me my gratuity," he said.
A lawyer by profession, Ethekon will be putting his distant native county on the map, given the significance of elections in Kenya.

From his appearance, Ethekon seems calm and reticent, exuding the same demeanour the late Wafula Chebukati had during his tenure.
His visible cool temperament is also mirrored in his humble abode in the Tobong'u Lore village.

A small flat-roofed house with two decorative brick columns is where Ethekon and his family stay when in the village.
The house is surrounded by a mesh fence tightened by wooden poles, with a black metallic gate at the entrance.
The larger vicinity is that of a fairly deserted, dusty environment with sparse vegetation.
Nonetheless, the nominee and his family do not live there; only a hired guard takes care of it.
Ethekon made his first public appearance during the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interviews in 2023 when he unsuccessfully sought the High Court judgeship.
He would later appear during the IEBC selection process in March.
Is Erastus Ethekon related to Josphat Nanok?
The nominee revealed to the committee that he did not have any close ties with former Turkana governor Josphat Nanok, explaining that there was a professional engagement as he served under the county government.
A petition had been filed against Ethekon's chairmanship in the IEBC over a supposed potential bias in favour of President William Ruto, given that Nanok works in State House, Nairobi.
