Bungoma: 2 Cops Killed as Police Vehicle Collides with Trailer at Matulo Area

Bungoma - At least two police officers have been killed in a grisly accident along the Bungoma-Webuye Highway.

The Tuesday, June 3 accident involved a Ford Ranger police vehicle and a fuel trailer in the Matulo area.
What caused the Bungoma-Webuye accident?
Preliminary investigations indicate that the police vehicle, which was speedin,g was overtaking when it collided with trailer.

Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud confirmed the tragic incident, disclosing that the victims, who included a police driver and a sergeant, died on the spot.
The police chief said the Ford Ranger police vehicle was en route to Bungoma from Webuye with one passenger, who was a police sergeant.
“On reaching at the location of the accident, he improperly overtook other vehicles and collided head on with motor vehicle Mercedes Benz trailer driven from the opposite direction. Due to the impact, the officers sustained multiple body injuries and died on the spot but their two rifles are safe," Mohamud said.
The driver of the trailer complained of pain due to the accident. The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
The trailer driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital (BCRH) for urgent treatment.

As investigations into the crash continue, all road users, especially drivers, have been urged to exercise caution while using the busy road.

How many people died in Molo accident?
The accident comes a few weeks after 12 people died following a devastating crash on the Njoro-Molo Road, Nakuru county.
The crash happened just before 6pm on Thursday, May 8, at Chebonde/Arimi, when a Nakuru K Service matatu collided head-on with a lorry.
County Police Commander Michael Mwaura confirmed that all 12 victims from the matatu—six men and six women—died instantly at the scene.
Their bodies were taken to Molo Sub County Mortuary, while eight survivors were rushed to various health facilities for medical care.
Elburgon MCA Njuguna Mwaura explained that the lorry, travelling towards Molo, collided with the Nissan vehicle, which appeared to have suffered a tyre burst and lost control before the crash.
John Mureithi, a passenger in the lorry, said they were heading to Molo when the accident occurred after the Nissan rolled and struck their vehicle.
He noted that good Samaritans assisted at the scene; while he sustained minor injuries, the driver was taken to the hospital with serious wounds.
