He strongly condemned the action by the police, arguing that the demonstrations are largely peaceful.
Maraga appealed to Kenyans to vote out President William Ruto's administration in the upcoming 2027 General Election, citing police brutality.
"We want the constitution to be respected. We want human life to have value; that’s why we are joining this procession. I can't see any violence here; these people are peaceful. We strongly condemn the use of state violence against grieving families and peaceful protestors. The flagrant violation of the Constitution and human rights must stop.
"This violence by police needs to change. We need to change this constitutionally. The appeal is to all Kenyans to vote this government out so that we can come back and reset the country," Maraga said.

How CS Kipchumba Murkomen warned against demos
In other news, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had downplayed the reasons for the ongoing demonstrations.
During a breakfast meeting with President Ruto and the FKF Premier League champions Police FC held at State House on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Murkomen said Kenyans have no reason to protest.
He said some political actors wanted to stage violent protests, but the Kenya Kwanza Alliance administration will not give space for armed protestors to cause chaos in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
According to Murkomen, some political actors are planning to buy machetes and rungus, trying to distribute them to young people to cause chaos in town.
The Interior CS directed the police to take decisive action against those planning to cause chaos in the CBD.
