Jobless teacher interrupts Murkomen in Nairobi

Walking through the Nairobi CBD, Murkomen focused on checking in with affected small-scale traders, some of whom had suffered significant losses in the chaos.

However, his tour was briefly disrupted when a desperate man approached him with a heartfelt plea for employment.

The man identified himself as a trained teacher who had been jobless for years. He urged the CS to help him secure a placement with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), insisting he had not taken part in the protests or looting.

In a video seen by TUKO.co.ke, Murkomen listened attentively before instructing the teacher to share his phone number with his aide. The man was assured that he would be contacted for further assistance.

Was the Gen Z protest hijacked by criminals?

Speaking after the inspection tour, Murkomen said the protests, which initially appeared peaceful, were quickly overtaken by organised criminal groups.

According to the CS, the protests were far from spontaneous. He described them as coordinated and heavily financed, claiming that their ultimate aim was to destabilise the government.

The government, he noted, believes that the chaos went beyond mere civil disobedience and bordered on an attempted coup. He added that chants heard during the demonstrations, particularly along Kiambu and Thika roads, suggested plans to seize power by force.

Murkomen described the violent scenes as acts of terrorism disguised as dissent. He said the looting, destruction, and reported cases of sexual assault showed a dangerous trend where criminal activity was masked as protest.

The man, who had gone to collect his PSV badge, spotted the CS during an official tour and seized the moment to plead his case.

Murkomen turned down the request, stating that job offers were not handled at the premises.

The incident, captured on video, quickly went viral, with social media users criticising the CS for what many termed a cold and dismissive response to someone clearly in need.

Days later, the man was offered a driving job under a Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) project in Nakuru.
