Nairobi: Suspect Who Stole Police’s Ak47 Rifle During Gen Z Protests Flees as DCI Storms Home
- A suspect is still on the run after being found to have stolen an AK-47 and a round from the Dagoretti Police Post
- The items were stolen during the June 25th protests, whereby the police post was stormed by the protesters, who set it on fire and stole items
- On Saturday, June 28, the DCI reported recovering the stolen firearm, with the suspect behind the theft taking off after seeing the detectives

Police from Kabete Police Station have found an AK-47 rifle that was allegedly stolen from the Dagoretti Police Post, which was raided by protesters last Wednesday, June 25.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), its officers were informed about the rifle by a local.
The informant had revealed to the DCI about the suspect's suspicious moves at the Gravity Bar in the Gahui area.
How suspect who stole firearm dodge the police
The officers immediately set out for the establishment to investigate the mentioned suspec; they managed to identify him.
"The breakthrough came after a tip-off about a suspicious individual carrying a bulging bag at Gravity Bar in Gahui area. Responding swiftly, officers descended on the establishment and, aided by forensic leads, identified the suspect," he DCI said.
He however took off after learning he was being pursued.
The officers extended their search to the suspect's parent's home.
They found the rifle with an empty magazine and one round.
The detectives confirmed that the articles were the ones stolen from the Dagoretti Police Post.
"The trail led officers to the suspect's residence in Njuki-Kirigu area. But upon spotting them, he vanished without a trace. A search of his home, conducted in the presence of his mother, uncovered an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, and a single round of 7.62mm special ammunition, all items confirmed to have been stolen from Dagoretti Police Post," said the DCI.
Meanwhile, the police, as they left the suspect's home with the firearm, embarked on searching for him.
"A manhunt is now underway as investigators pursue fresh leads to bring the fugitive to justice," he said.
In other news, President William Ruto said the culprits behind the damage to property and injuries during the June 25 protests will be traced and subjected to justice.
Ruto is concerned that criminals are leveraging protests to advance lawlessness.

He was disturbed by the attacks perpetrated on the police and damages caused to police stations and government property, including vehicles; he said the country would be unsafe if the law enforcers themselves are not safe.

Ruto said "this trend must change", hinting at tough measures to arrest lawlessness borne in the protests.
He said the security of the country would be at risk if the officers charged with maintaining law and order become targets.
He declared that the culprits behind the infernos in police stations and attacks on the armed officers of the law will be hunted down and brought to justice.
The president assured the police officers of government support, appreciating the adversities they go past to undertake their duties.
