The whereabouts of the 31-year-old blogger and tech expert remain unknown, days after he went missing under unclear circumstances.

During a court session that many had hoped would mark a turning point in the search, Kinyagia’s family, represented by their lawyer Wahome Thuku, shared mixed emotions.

They welcomed the court's attention to the case but also voiced concern over the lack of concrete updates.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Wahome firmly pushed back against the allegations that Kinyagia was last spotted in the company of a young man and the two women.

He stressed that none of those people were connected to the family and questioned whether any serious efforts had been made to identify them.

“The family’s position is clear, those individuals may be part of the situation, but it is up to the police to find out who they are,” he said.

Wahome also challenged the DCI to produce evidence supporting the claims and reveal what investigations had been conducted out so far.

The High Court had ordered the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to either present Ndiangui in person or appear in court to explain his continued disappearance.

However, instead of appearing himself, he sent representatives who told the court that Kinyagia was not in their custody.

The judge postponed the matter to Thursday, July 3, and issued fresh instructions requiring the Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin to appear in person and give a direct account of the missing blogger’s status.

What progress has Ndiangui Kinyagia's family seen so far?

Wahome shared with TUKO.co.ke that the family was satisfied that their voice had been heard.

He described the court’s handling of the matter as fair and balanced, noting that the judge had expressed concern about the mystery surrounding Kinyagia's disappearance without issuing a conclusive ruling.

"The judge indicated that this is a missing person who could not have left the country unnoticed. He must be somewhere," Wahome said, echoing the court’s suspicion that the man might still be within reach of the authorities.

Although the family noted that progress had been slow, they believed the case had taken a significant step forward.

Wahome expressed appreciation for the judiciary’s handling of the matter, stating that the court had fulfilled its responsibility in pushing the process forward.

The family remains hopeful that Kinyagia is alive and in the care of someone who knows his whereabouts. Their greatest wish, Wahome added, is that he is found safe and sound.

Was Ndiangui Kinyagia a suspect or a victim?

Wahome clarified that there were no formal criminal charges or accusations against Ndiangui and insisted that speculation on the matter was premature.

He pointed out that neither the police nor the DCI had made specific allegations, adding that until Ndiangui is located, questions about his actions or intentions are best left unanswered.

“If there is anything he did or didn’t do, it is for him to say in court,” he stated.

He added that only the police or DCI can clarify whether there are plans to charge him, and that for now, the focus remains on finding him, not prosecuting him.

Wahome also challenged the notion that Ndiangui is a person of interest, stressing that he lived independently and had not been involved in anything known to the family.

He claimed that authorities had gone as far as breaking into his home, only to find he was not there.

What is Ndiangui's family demanding from police?

The family called on the police and DCI to prioritise finding Ndiangui before considering any legal action against him.

“The first thing the police should do is look for the missing person,” Wahome said. “You don’t suspend one part of your responsibility to pursue another.”

Once found, Wahome added, the police could then outline any charges or reasons for their search. Until then, the matter should remain a missing persons case.

“That’s why we say he is considered a person of interest. Once the police make clear what they intend to do with him, we’ll close that chapter,” he said.
“That’s why we want the head of the DCI to come and tell us—this is what we have done, this is what we have not done,” he added.

Who was dumped in Ruaka?

In a related development, a man was found unconscious and showing signs of torture in Ruaka on Tuesday, July 1, sparking online speculation after viral photos claimed he resembled the missing blogger.

He has since been identified as Jackson Njuguna Wambui, a clothes vendor and resident of Ruaka.

His aunt, Joyce Njuguna, confirmed the family recognised him from the images and traced him to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he remains in the ICU in critical condition.

Joyce clarified that Jackson is not a blogger, has no political ties, and did not participate in any protests.

The family suspects he may have been attacked in a case of mistaken identity and is now demanding justice and answers.
