The 2025 Saba Saba Day protests that were meant to commemorate the 1990 demonstrations that pushed for the restoration of multiparty democracy did not end well.

As per police reports, 11 lives were lost, 52 police officers were injured, and several other damages were experienced during the protests in several parts of the country.
What was meant to be a peaceful demo turned chaotic, just like several others in the past, leaving a bad mark in Kenya's fight for democracy.
Did the world react to the Saba Saba demos?
Amidst all the chaos faced in Kenya, the world at large sat and watched as Kenya wrangled from within, with the police and civilians turning against each other.
It was not an easy feeling for many, and even at Earth's highest mountain above sea level, Mt Everest, the need to show support was felt.
Taking to X, Mt Everest shared a photo of hikers holding the Kenyan flag, who appeared to be from the country.
In the snap, the team appeared to have reached one of the peaks and were delighted to share their joy with the rest of the world.
In the photo, they also shared a message of hope, urging Kenyans to stay strong and that they were with us.
"From top of the world to the heart of Africa, we are with you. Stay strong, Kenya!," read the message.

Did police officer threaten to shoot protesters?
In another story, a chilling video has gone viral, which shows a police officer issuing death threats to protesters in a residential area.
The video captured during the Saba Saba demos on Monday, July 7, shows anti-riot police claiming they had permission to shoot and kill.
The police officer was spotted aiming and pointing his gun at protesters, saying that if they wanted to sleep in a 'fridge', he would grant them their fate.
The video shows just how those meant to protect the citizens have seemingly become their biggest enemies, causing fear and terror even in their homes.
