Wambui, a nurse at Naivasha County Referral Hospital, had been missing for about a week before she was found dead on Thursday, July 10.
TV 47 reported that Wambui's body was discovered hours after her househelp was arrested by detectives investigating the case.
Where was Jane Wambui's body discovered?
Addressing the press, Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Keter said Wambui's decomposing body was found buried in a shallow grave behind her house.
According to Keter, the househelp, who is being treated as the main suspect, led the detectives to the site where the nurse was buried.
The police boss disclosed that they are searching for more suspects as they try to determine the motive of the murder.
"On Sunday we got a report about a missing person, and we launched our investigations, which led us to arrest one suspect. The suspect led us to the deceased's house, where he showed us where Jane Wambui was buried, just behind her house in a shallow grave around three feet. Otherwise, we are still searching for other suspects who took part in the incident," Keter said.
Who is the main suspect behind Jane Wambui's murder?
Naivasha sub-county detectives are holding the deceased's 30-year-old nanny, Mary Chebet.
According to the DCI, the deceased's husband, a resident of the Karai area in Naivasha, reported that his wife went missing on July 4, 2025, after leaving her workplace en route home.
"Investigations were launched, and detectives zeroed in on Chebet as the prime suspect. Under interrogation, she led the officers to the victim’s home in Karai, where she revealed the horrifying scene, her employer’s body buried in a shallow grave behind the house," the DCI said.
When did Jane Wambui go missing?
Ben Kuria, a colleague of the deceased, described Wambui as a good health officer who worked in the children's department.
Kuria disclosed that they realised on Friday, July 4, that their colleague was missing before they started searching for her.
"The person we have been searching for and whom we have found today was working in the children's department. She was a good person. I got information that she got lost on Monday, the day of protests, and we came to her house, but she was not there. We began searching for her with the help of the police until today when we found her body. We hope justice will be served," Kuria said.
