Kenyans Tell off Gachagua after Penning Heartfelt Tribute to Comedian KK Mwenyewe: "You Ignored"

  • Many Kenyans have dismissed Rigathi Gachagua's tribute to comedian KK Mwenyewe as a stark play to the gallery
  • They argued the former deputy president never purposed to empower the deceased despite the apparent desperation to meet him when he was still the DP
  • Born Zakaria Kariuki, KK Mwenyewe premised his comedic personality around mimicking Gachagua, endearing himself to a fanbase that enjoyed his creative works

Who is Mr KK Mwenyewe?

On Tuesday, July 15, Gachagua sent a tribute to mourn the young man.

"I have this morning woken up to the sad demise of Mr. Zachariah Kariuki alias Mr. KK Mwenyewe, a content creator per excellence and inspiration to many." Gachagua said in a tweet Tuesday evening from the US.

He eulogised him as "a young, consistent, and resilient young man, who used comedy to communicate simple and creative messages to all Kenyans and spoke to our hearts."

"I send my deepest sympathies to his family and his friends at this difficult moment. I especially condole the creative industry on the loss of a champion whose creative eye lives with us for days to come. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may God grant his family peace," his tweet read further.

But this tribute did not move many Kenyans.

An overly good percentage were quick to remind Gachagua that he had ignored the comic when he should have empowered him, by virtue of the deceased having personified his (Gachagua's) character in his comedy style.

Why Kenyans bashed Gachagua's tribute to KK Mwenyewe

As earlier hinted, KK Mwenyewe shot to fame in 2022, at the same time as Ivy Chelimo, the coiner of the Riggy G moniker.

The former deputy president, then in office, offered Chelimo a role in the Office of the Deputy President for what he implied was rewarding creativity.

Following that, sections of the internet petitioned Gachagua to consider KK Mwenyewe as well, but to no avail.

It was hence on this basis that Gachagua was bashed on Tuesday.

Those in disagreement with this message said he was just playing to the gallery; he did not show up for the young man when it would have mattered, they said.

See some of the reactions below;

"You failed to recognize him when he was alive, he tried to reach out to you but you ignored. Hapa Itabidi ukae kando kidogo. Let those who stood with him mourn in peace," said Bookten.

"Why recognize him on his death when you couldn't when he was alive. I remember very well how biased you were when you chose that lady over him & you could have supported both of them," tweeted Alinur Mohamed.
"Indeed,if you want to be loved, die first," said Willie Oeba.
"To be a man; 88% of men receive their first flowers at their funeral," said Ja Loka.
"You ignored him when he was alive, stop these sideshows," said Jimmy Kafangi.
"Sadly that you never found any reason of reaching out to empower! Why mourn him when he is forever gone yet you couldn't do that at his lifetime? If he was a lady, you'd have invited and broke bread with. You ignored him until today when he is no more. Really human beings," said Baro Swahjr.
"You ignored him throughout, instead rewarding a girl. You should have stood with them both. So now you condole, what will you do to help the family? said Wes Mapesa.

"While KK Mwenyewe struggled to get your attention way before Ivy Chelimo, you never listened to the ground and never accommodated his ‘nuisance’. Only until today morning, when you are waking up to the news of his demise. Enyewe to be a man, is a struggle. The cobwebs live," Ian Kweya said.
"You ignored the guy while he was still alive. All politicians are just the same. Shame on you mzee bwana," tweeted Kijana Ya Atwoli.
"You refused to help him while he mimicked you when he was still alive...now suddenly you have become very clever?...Your hypocrisy is something to be studied....no difference of you and your mentor William Ruto," said Onyi Claude.

Where did KK Mwenyewe die?

As earlier reported, the comedian died at the Kiambu Level 4 Hospital on Monday, July 14.

Besides comedy, KK Mwenyewe was a student at Kisii University, where he was undertaking a degree in Applied Computer Science.
