"Boniface Mwangi was arrested yesterday, July 19, 2025, by detectives at his residence in Lukenya in Machakos County in connection with the facilitation of terrorist activities during the June 25, 2025, protests," DCI said.
Following his arrest at his Lukenya home, the activist was taken to his office at Mageuzi Hub in Hurlingham, where a search was conducted, and the DCI recovered several assorted items.
Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, constitutional lawyer and human rights defender Advocate Achieng’ Otieno described the DCI's move as part of a broader campaign to silence critics of the government.
“This appears to be a politically motivated arrest rather than a lawful pursuit of justice. You do not label someone a terrorist simply because they own laptops, tear gas canisters, or hard drives. These are items that require proper forensic analysis and context, not sensationalism. Otherwise, we risk turning law enforcement into a tool of political suppression," she told TUKO.co.ke.
