The head of state further pledged KSh 20 million to the Machakos AIC Church to support the construction of their new sanctuary

Ruto pledged 10% of the total cost after he was informed that the total construction budget was KSh 200 million.

He asked the church leadership to form a committee and provide an official account number to which he would send the KSh 20 million.

"And because you have faith, I also have faith that we will accomplish it. Therefore, I will start with ten percent of that two hundred million. Form a committee and a special construction account—Kiuli, you manage it. When you give me the account details, I will send the first twenty million, and then we'll see how things go," said President Ruto.

Ruto defended his giving to churches, insisting that partnering with faith institutions is key to national development.

How President Ruto defended building church at the State House

In his speech, the head of state hit out at people opposed to his move to construct a church at State House, Nairobi.

Ruto jokingly hit out at Anglican Church Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit for questioning who would serve as the bishop of that church at State House.

On a light note, the head of state said that once he retires from politics, he will become an evangelist.

"There is even one bishop who complained a lot when he heard we are building a church at State House. He said, 'Who will be the bishop? Will the president be the bishop?' I am not a bishop now, but when I finish this work of politics, I will be an evangelist," he stated.
