According to a statement shared by the NCIC chairperson, Reverend Samuel Kobia, the decision to have Nyutu fired followed a Special Commission Meeting that was held on Tuesday, July 22.
Why was Wambui Nyutu fired?
Kobia stated that Nyutu's conduct had become incompatible with the obligations she was assigned as the vice chair of NCIC.

Additionally, he cited Nyutu's involvement in the partisan political activities of the country, asserting that the move violates the law.

Citizen Digital reported that Nyutu has been under scrutiny since the beginning of the year due to her involvement in political matters.
"The commission has noted that Wambui Nyutu has been participating in meetings conducted with a particular political party. These actions constitute continued engagement with partisan politics, which contravenes her commitment to the commission," the statement further read.
Kobia argued that Nyutu, through her actions, has breached the commission's expectations, which require all leaders to exercise impartiality.
He further stated that the commission will formally inform all the relevant appointing authorities of the decision that has been made.
Who will replace Wambui Nyutu?
Nyutu was immediately replaced by Dorcas Kedogo, who will take over the reins of the commission as the vice chairperson.
The NCIC commission further distances itself from any political engagements that were made by Nyutu during the period in which she served as the vice chair.
"The commission reaffirms its commitment to the principles of professionalism, impartiality, and integrity in the execution of its mandate. Commissioners are under an obligation to remain independent and non-partisan," Kobia added.
NCIC calls for Rigathi Gachagua's prosecution
This comes weeks after the commission called for the arrest and prosecution of the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua.
The call for Gachagua's arrest was a result of his failing to honour an NCIC summons over hate speech allegations linked to post-election violence.

Kobia confirmed that the commission had forwarded Gachagua's name to the Office of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for action to be taken.
Speaking to the press, Kobia affirmed that Gachagua is one of the politicians in the country under probe over incitement and hate speech.
NCIC named other politicians under investigation, and they include Lang'ata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwour, famously known as Jalang'o and William Kamket.
