NPS Announces Closure of 3 Roads in Nairobi during CHAN Matches on Sunday

  • Three major roads in the city will experience traffic disruptions as the capital hosts the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches
  • The roads near the Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Sports Center will have their lanes closed throughout the day
  • The National Police Service published the alternative routes that motorists can use in the course of the road closures

The National Police Service (NPS) has notified motorists in Nairobi of an oncoming traffic disruption this Sunday, August 10.

The city will be holding another round of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches.

Which roads will be closed in Nairobi during CHAN?

Aerodrome Road – from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

One lane of Lang’ata Road – from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout.

One lane of Mombasa Road – from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

Traffic diversion routes

Motorists from Mombasa Road heading to Nairobi CBD should use Likoni Road - Enterprise Road (near General Motors) or the Southern Bypass (via Ole Sereni).

Motorists from Lang’ata Road heading to Nairobi CBD should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road (via Mbagathi Roundabout).

Motorists from Nairobi CBD heading to Thika Road (Ruiru/Juja/Thika) should use Limuru Road or Kiambu Road.

Matatus transporting passengers to Kasarani should use Ruaraka - Baba Ndogo Road - Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo Roundabout.

5. Motorists from Thika Road heading to Nairobi CBD should use the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

Motorists were further advised to avoid Thika Road unless they are travelling to Kasarani Stadium.

Meanwhile, Kenya is set to face Morocco in their third fixture of the CHAN 2024 group stage, an arguably toughest fixture for the team ever since it started the campaign on August 3.

Will Harambee Stars edge out Morocco in 2024 CHAN?

Despite being drawn into what many consider the toughest group of the tournament, the Kenyan squad has impressed by staying unbeaten in their opening two matches.

Their upcoming clash with Morocco presents perhaps their biggest challenge yet, as the North African side is widely regarded as the most formidable and well-prepared team in the competition.

Morocco enters the match as strong contenders—not just for this game, but for the championship title itself.

The match will be played at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani on Sunday, August 10, with kickoff scheduled for 3 pm.

Later that evening, Zambia will go head-to-head with Angola at Nyayo Stadium starting at 6 pm.

Inside William Ruto's prize for Harambee Stars

The team is yet again staring at a multimillion-shilling cash prize should they stage another win.

At their first win against the DRC, Ruto issued KSh 42 million to be distributed equally among all the players and members of the technical bench.
