David Maraga Mourns 50 Kenyans Killed in Road Accidents 3 Days Apart

Mourners travelling in a school bus met their tragic end after the vehicle overturned at the Coptic roundabout blackspot on Friday evening, August 8.

Seven others died while receiving treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
On Saturday, a day after the Kisumu tragedy, eight people died in a road accident in Kajiado county.
A matatu collided with a lorry near Kitengela, killing seven passengers on the spot.
The Kajiado and Kisumu accidents happened after another one in Naivasha, Nakuru County, where nine people were killed after the bus they were travelling in was crushed by a cargo train.
Maraga shared in the grief of the bereaved families.
"I am saddened by the loss of life in accidents that have taken place in the past 72 hours, with about 50 people killed and many more injured. We join the families of the victims of the Mwihoko, Naivasha, Kisumu and Kitengela accidents in mourning the deceased. We wish a quick recovery to all the injured," Maraga said.
How Governor Nyong'o reacted to the Kisumu road crash
Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong'o also shared in the grief of the bereaved families and the pain of the survivors.

He prayed for comfort for the affected people and a quick recovery for the injured survivors.
The governor pledged support to the affected victims and called on motorists to be careful while on the roads.
"My sincere condolences to the families and friends who have lost their loved ones in the accident, and we offer our prayers to those who sustained injuries and continue to receive medical attention at different facilities. My Office is working with all the relevant authorities to provide any requisite support at the moment as we continue to urge caution on our roads and by the road users," Nyong'o said.
How did William Ruto react to Kisumu accident?
Reacting to the tragedy, President William Ruto directed legal proceedings against officials whose alleged negligence may have played a role in the fatal road accident in Kisumu.
He expressed sorrow over the incident, calling it “a terrible tragedy.”
Ruto extended his condolences to the families affected, offered well-wishes to those injured, and urged traffic authorities to address any lapses in responsibility.
He directed that individuals found culpable be apprehended and face legal consequences.
"Our prayers are with the victims of the terrible accident that occurred tonight on the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway. May the Almighty give strength to the families to bear the loss. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We ask traffic enforcers to act swiftly to bring to book those responsible for any acts of negligence leading to the accident and address all traffic violations to ensure road safety across the country," the president said.
