The policy contains strict proposals, such as a ban on selling alcohol in specific areas, such as supermarkets, bus parks, beaches, and public places.
In the same policy, NACADA has proposed the change of the age limit of alcohol consumption from 18 to 21 years.
Further, the policy states that retail shops for alcoholic drinks should be situated 300 meters away from schools and any learning institution.
However, the proposed measures attracted mixed reactions, with some Kenyans sharing funny sentiments over the proposals.
How Kenyans reacted to proposals by NACADA
One Kenyan suggested that under former president Uhuru Kenyatta's regime, such measures could not be adopted.
@SnrTCalvin20:
"These NACADA ppl forget the day alcohol will seize to be sold in Kenya, that small office of theirs will be rendered dormant, no budget hence closure."
Benard Odhiambo:
"Will they be sold in churches??"
@Addu_Ardu:
"Utapata this directive was passed while they were sipping on something ππ."

"Why prohibit online sales? Supermarkets only sell to over 18s? This is just killing avenues of employment for no reason. But as I always say, alcohol, like wind, is a force of nature, there's no stopping it!"

What NACADA said about the new policy
Following backlash from Kenyans, NACADA issued a statement clarifying the contents of the newly launched policy proposal.
In a statement, the authority stated that the policy only contains recommendations and not enforcement measures.
According to NACADA, the recommendations that require a legal framework for operationalisation will be subject to due process.
NACADA stated that all stakeholders will be involved in any decision-making process.
