Amani Komora: William Ruto Nominates Former SRC Vice Chair to Head Police Service Commission

President William Ruto has nominated Amani Yuda Komora as the chairperson of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), alongside five others appointed as commission members.

The nomination was announced through a notice issued on Monday, August 4, 2025.
The appointments were made in line with Article 250(2)(b) of the Constitution and Section 9(5) of the National Police Service Commission Act.
According to the Executive Office of the President, the nominations follow the recommendation of the Selection Panel appointed to recruit qualified candidates for the roles.
Who is Amani Yuda Komora?
Komora is not new to national leadership as he previously served as vice-chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
He was also the General Manager of Human Resource and Administration at Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
He held key roles at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and served as a member of the National General Wages Council.
He holds a PhD in Human Resource Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Also nominated is Angeline Yiamiton Siparo, a seasoned public health advocate who has coordinated the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Legacy Localisation Project across 49 countries.
Hailing from Narok county, Siparo is a former chairperson of the National AIDS Control Council and has worked with various international organisations, including UNAIDS, FHI, and the Population Reference Bureau.
She holds a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from USIU–Africa.

The two nominees will join other members of the commission, including:
- Peris Muthoni Kimani–Kiambu
- Edwin Cheluget–Nandi
- Benjamin Juma Imai—Bungoma
- Collette A. Suda—Migori
The new team will officially take office upon receiving parliamentary approval, as published vide Kenya Gazette Notice No. 1181.
The NPSC is mandated under Article 246(1) of the Constitution to recruit and appoint officers within the National Police Service, confirm appointments, determine promotions and transfers, and exercise disciplinary control.
What reforms did Murkomen announce in police force?
Meanwhile, in a major step toward police reform, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen launched a nationwide plan to digitise operations across 1,209 police stations.
The initiative included installing CCTV systems, with the officers commanding stations responsible for functionality and fault reporting within an hour.
Each station will also receive external backup systems to safeguard data.
Murkomen announced the adoption of digital occurrence books (OBs) under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Further, the CS stated that a new award system will honour outstanding officers and stations for ethical and professional conduct. He also called for a policy to independently review police practices and public engagement.
