This, Omtatah claimed, is while neglecting vital public projects that would benefit ordinary Kenyans.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Omtatah argued that the president is more interested in creating a market for building materials than addressing the country’s actual development needs.

Has Ruto invested in affordable housing companies?

He cited Busia county as an example, where he lamented the neglect of key infrastructure.

Omtatah pointed to the crumbling state of the Agricultural Training College (ATC) in Busia and the deterioration of the local airstrip as signs of misplaced priorities in national development.

“This gentleman has decided to put affordable housing. Where are farmers going to train agriculture?” he asked.
“He is just creating a market for cement, metal and all these building materials, where I think he has heavily invested, and just going to make a kill for himself,” he claimed.

Is Ruto the best president Kenya has ever had?

He then tore into Ruto’s recent self-praise, referring to a video in which the president boldly claimed he is the most accomplished leader Kenya has ever had.

In that speech, Ruto compared himself to his predecessors, saying he has Jomo Kenyatta’s courage, Daniel Moi’s understanding, Mwai Kibaki’s education, and the development plan he shared with Uhuru Kenyatta.

Omtatah dismissed the statement as self-serving and delusional.

“He is a man who serves himself. Look at the ego that he portrays. Look at the narcissism that comes from his own mouth. Look at the self-worship ... He is not normal,” he said.
“He thinks that he is the best thing that God created on this earth. He is not. We are all made in the image and likeness of God. That’s a man who cannot lead. He should be led,” the senator claimed.

Omtatah questions Ruto's integrity, morals

Omtatah further questioned the president’s credentials and moral standing, pointing out that Ruto avoided any mention of integrity while listing his supposed strengths.

“If you look at the Constitution, Article 73 talks of suitability, Article 99 talks of qualifications. He's talking of qualifications, not suitability. And I’m very happy he didn’t talk about integrity,” he noted.

The senator then challenged Ruto’s track record, asking what measurable impact he had made during his time in Parliament, in the Cabinet, or as head of state.

He painted a bleak picture of Kenya’s future under Ruto’s continued leadership.

“I agree with him, if he's allowed to lead, we shall not recognise Kenya. It will be a basket case. It will be dead and gone.”

Will Okiya Omtatah vie in 2027?

Omtatah’s sharp criticism comes as political temperatures begin to rise ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The activist-turned-politician, who has expressed interest in vying for the presidency, continues to position himself as a no-nonsense, truth-telling alternative to the current administration.

In the same interview, Omtatah hinted at his campaign war chest, revealing his net worth to be between KSh 100 million and KSh 200 million.
