He appreciated that the team was overburdened with one player off the pitch, but managed to force a draw with the aggressive Angola.

"What a valiant display of skill and endurance by our gallant Harambee Stars! Reduced to 10 men early in the game, you stood tall, fought hard, and covered every blade of grass on the pitch to hold Angola to a commanding draw. Will Ruto keep his promise to Harambee Stars players?

The president reaffirmed his commitment to the promise he made to the players.

He had promised that for each win, each member of the team would be handed KSh 1 million, and KSh 500,000 for every draw.

Ruto promised to live up to that promise.

"You have made us proud. Congratulations, boys. I owe you as we had agreed," he stated.

How Harambee Stars defended against Angola after red card drama

Marvin Nabwire received a direct red card during the first half of Kenya’s CHAN 2024 match against Angola.

Despite being reduced to ten men early on, Harambee Stars showcased a resilient defensive display.

Angola applied consistent pressure but couldn’t make the most of their numerical advantage.

The visitors took an early lead in the 6th minute through Jó Paciência, who converted a cross from Beni Jetour.

Kenya quickly responded, with Austin Odhiambo scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute after being brought down in the box.

Nabwire’s dismissal came following a VAR review, prompting head coach Benni McCarthy to adjust his game plan.

The team battled through the remaining 70 minutes with a player down, maintaining their composure and tactical discipline.

Who next is Harambee Stars playing against?

The home team is slated to play against Morocco on Sunday, August 10.

A win will catapult them to the top of Group A and a clear path to the quarter finals.

The team has four points after a win and draw, and Morocco has three, having won against Angola on August 3.

The Sunday match will be the second one for Morocco.

Ruto promised the Harambee Stars team KSh 600 million should they clinch the CHAN title.
