In a statement on Facebook on Sunday, August 10, Ena Coach confirmed that its bus, registration number KDE 279Q was involved in an accident.

How many passengers was the Ena Coach bus carrying?

According to Ena Coach, the bus was ferrying 47 passengers and three crew members from Nairobi to Kehancha, Migori county.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm that last night, August 9, our bus registration number KDE 279Q, scheduled for Nairobi-Kehancha, was involved in a tragic accident. The bus departed Nairobi at approximately 8pm, carrying 47 passengers and 3 crew members, all setting out on their journey without incident," Ena Coach said.

The bus firm explained that a truck lost its brakes while descending an escarpment before hitting the bus from the rear.

After the collision, the bus veered off the road and overturned.

"While descending the escarpment, near the historical Catholic church, an unforeseen event occurred when a truck lost its brakes and struck two vehicles before hitting our bus from the rear. The force of the collision caused our bus to veer off the road and overturn," the statement read.

How many people died in the Ena Coach bus accident?

Ena Coach confirmed that two passengers, a female adult and a minor, died in the accident, with several others sustaining injuries.

"It is with profound sorrow that we report the loss of two passengers, a female adult and a minor. Several others sustained injuries. Rescue teams from St John Ambulance, the police and generous well-wishers responded swiftly, working tirelessly to assist the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals for urgent care. We are grateful to report that most of those admitted have since been treated, cleared and discharged," they stated.

The bus company shared that condolence message with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident.

"Our hearts go out to the families and friends who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences and stand with you in this time of grief. To those injured, we offer our sincere wishes for a swift and complete recovery," Ena Coach said.

In other sad news, four family members perished following a tragic accident in Makueni county.

The police report showed that a private vehicle returning from a dowry ceremony lost control and overturned along the Kibwezi-Kitui Highway.

Following the crash, four people died on the spot while another person sustained injuries.
