This is after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen urged Gachagua to record a statement upon his return from the United States.
Will Gachagua help Kenya in probing terror claims?
Speaking during a town hall engagement at the Holy Names University in San Francisco, California, on Saturday, August 9, Gachagua argued that the Kenyan government has not launched any official probe against Ruto, and that any inquiry is being led solely by the US Senate.

"We cannot help in any investigation because the Kenyan government has initiated no investigation against Ruto. The people who have initiated investigations are the US Senate," he stated.
Instead, Gachagua pledged to cooperate only with the US Senate, which has initiated inquiries into the matter.
He also accused Murkomen of spreading fear unnecessarily, stating, 'To the CS, do not sell fear to us. We cannot buy it.'

Has the government been in contact with al-Shabaab?
The DCP leader further alleged that the government, through the Interior CS, has been in contact with al-Shabaab militants, citing the release of five Mandera chiefs after negotiations in April 2025.
“When five Mandera chiefs were abducted, it was the CS who publicly said he would negotiate for their release. Since the chiefs were freed, the CS must know al-Shabaab leaders well.”
On the US investigations, Gachagua said he would cooperate fully with the American Senate and mentioned knowledge of dealings related to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), but insisted that the Kenyan government has shown no interest in pursuing any probe.

The Americans have asked questions, and if I am required to help, the issues in Sudan and the dealings with the RSF, I will. But the Kenyan government has raised no issues, they are comfortable with the issues going on in the country," Gachagua added.
The remarks come amid growing political tension after the US Senate launched investigations following the massive killings and abductions since the June 2024 protests and accusations of links to terrorist activities.
What did Gachagua request from the US?
Meanwhile, Gachagua appealed to the US not to revoke Kenya’s military aid and intelligence-sharing agreements linked to its strategic partnership.
He urged the American government to avoid imposing broad sanctions that would affect the Kenyan people. Instead, Gachagua called for targeted measures against Ruto, including travel bans to the US and allied countries.
He emphasised that any punitive action should focus solely on the head of state to protect the nation’s interests. Gachagua stressed the importance of maintaining Kenya’s status as a valued ally.
