The light aircraft, operated by AMREF Flying Doctors, went down just minutes after departing Wilson Airport, crashing in a residential area in Mwihoko, Kiambu county.

Is Jane Omusula's body missing?

Jane’s brother, Daniel Omusula, recounted the devastating moment he learned of her death, saying the loss has been even harder to bear as her full body was never recovered.

“There is no body to bury. We are not even going to see Jane’s body in the mortuary because there is nothing,” he said. “I wish she had just died a normal death — we could see the body and bury her peacefully.”

Daniel described the news as the worst he had ever received, adding that his sister was a determined, selfless woman who put others before herself.

“She was focused and knew what she wanted in life. I wish God had given her some time to enjoy the fruits she had been fighting for. Jane was a walking angel. I cannot do what Jane used to do. Even when we are sick, we do not pay, she pays from there so long as you give the number of the nurse,” he said.

When did Jane Omusula join AMREF?

Jane’s career in nursing began at Mukumu Nursing School, followed by a nursing degree at Aga Khan University in Kisumu, and a master’s in nursing at the University of Nairobi.

She had served with AMREF Flying Doctors for four years and eight months.

Who else died in the AMREF plane crash?

A day after the incident, AMREF Flying Doctors shared details of their staff members who died in the tragic crash.

Among them was Captain Muthuka Munuve, who had served the organisation for nearly seven years.

Also on board was Captain Brian Kimani Miaro, an accomplished instructor captain with close to four years at the company.

The third crew member, Charles Mugo Njoroge, had worked with AMREF Flying Doctors for over seven years.

What happened before AMREF plane crash?

Meanwhile, an eyewitness reported seeing the plane struggle during descent before it began emitting smoke mid-air.

Moments later, a loud bang from the crash caused panic in the area.

Another witness recounted seeing the aircraft burst into flames while still in the sky before striking a residential building.

Residents said smoke filled the scene, where what appeared to be human remains were visible.
