Ibrahim Ochieng graduated from the University of Nairobi (UoN) and was fortunate to secure employment with the TSC.

Why was Ibrahim Ochieng fired by TSC?

The biology and chemistry teacher was later dismissed by his employer after he was posted to Mandera.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 12, he disclosed that TSC instituted disciplinary action against him for allegedly not reporting to the school where he had been posted.

Ochieng stated he has filed an appeal against the TSC decision because of what he termed wrongful dismissal.

"I am appealing to TSC that my wrongful dismissal was stated that I failed to report to school, but I want to state that I went to Mandera and reported to school, but the principal refused to assign me a duty, so he is the one who sent me back to Nairobi. Some of the disciplinary hearings were done in my absence," Ochieng said.

After hosting Ochieng in his office, Mosiria expressed his happiness for the transformation that the former street teacher had undergone.

Why should the TSC reinstate Ochieng?

Mosiria pleaded with TSC to consider Ochieng's appeal, stating that he has reformed ever since he underwent rehabilitation.

According to Mosiria, Ochieng's transformation should serve as a lesson to the people living on the street.

"I’m truly happy to see Mwalimu embracing a new chapter in life. From experiencing life on the streets and struggling with drug addiction, he has now turned his life around. He’s currently teaching at a private school, using his second chance to positively impact others. He has written an appeal to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), hoping to be reinstated. I fully support his plea and sincerely wish him all the best as he seeks reinstatement. May his journey continue to inspire many more. Please, TSC, if you get his appeal, kindly consider him. He is a man who has reformed; he is no longer on drugs or substance abuse," Mosiria stated.

How did Mosiria help Ochieng Ibrahim?

At the rehabilitation centre, Ochieng met Nairobi’s Chief Environment Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, who had been invited to speak to the participants.

Having studied at the same university, Mosiria was moved by Ochieng’s story and offered to support him in getting back on his feet.

The county official told TUKO.co.ke that he had helped Ochieng secure a job at a school in Nairobi as he awaits the outcome of his appeal to TSC.
