On Wednesday, August 13, CS Murkomen appeared in parliament to answer a series of questions posed by Members of Parliament (MPs) on security matters.

Which names did Murkomen list in parliament?

Among the questions that Murkomen was requested to respond to was the status of the recent controversial BBC Africa Eye investigative documentary dubbed MADAM: Exposing Kenya’s Child Sex Trade.

The controversial documentary focused on the involvement of 'madams' in the trafficking of young girls for sex in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County.

The Interior CS caused laughter in parliament after he started listing the women linked to the scam.

The lawmakers burst into laughter after the CS mentioned the name of Faith Weta.

"Milicent Wairimu, the chairlady of the commercial sex workers, sourced three other girls, Faith Weta, Mary Njoki, and Faith Njeri," Murkomen said as he smiled.

How did Moses Wetang'ula react?

Speaker Moses Wetang'ula was quick to interject, seeking an assurance from Murkomen that the name is not linked to him.

In a quick response, the Interior CS said detectives investigating the matter are yet to confirm whether the speaker was linked to the matter.

Standing on a point of order, Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang sought clarification from the CS as to whether Wetang'ula was being investigated.

In his light response, Murkomen said Wetang'ula was not under investigation, adding that the name featured in the documentary would be a clan or someone who named her daughter after the speaker.

"Whereas the speaker is not involved in this matter. We cannot confirm whether Faith Weta is related to the speaker in any way. And it does not mean there is any impropriety on his part; this is a name it could be from the same clan," said Murkomen.

What did the police say about the BBC documentary?

In related news, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, said action will be taken against anyone involved in child trafficking.

In a statement on August 6, Kanja said a multi-agency team had been dispatched to Mai Mahiu to investigate the matter.
