Today, however, Shittu is fighting for his health. He revealed that his treatment requires medication costing about KSh 12,000 every month — a burden he has been unable to meet.

In July, he went two months without taking the drugs due to a lack of funds, further complicating his recovery.

“I developed a stroke and lost my ability to speak. When my contract at City Stars ended, I was abandoned. Nobody has reached out to help. I appeal to all the clubs I served to support me in getting treatment,” he said, struggling to communicate.

Despite giving his all to the game, Abdalla lamented the lack of assistance from the clubs he once represented.

Still, he acknowledged an individual supporter who has stood by him, helping to pay his rent during these difficult times.

Well-wishers who wish to support Abdalla’s treatment can send contributions through Till Number 6607094, Account Name: Abdallah Yusuf.

What did Ezekiel Otuoma suffer from?

Meanwhile, Ezekiel Otuoma battled motor neurone disease, which affected him both mentally and physically since 2020.

As the illness progressed, he lost the ability to eat and walk on his own. He also lost his speech.

Otuoma, who featured for Ulinzi, AFC Leopards, Muhoroni Youth, Western Stima, Sony Sugar, and Talanta, never recovered.

While most patients with ALS live three to five years after symptoms begin, some survive longer. Sadly, Otuoma passed away in December 2024, before reaching that stage.
