Did a lorry carrying cattle get involved in accident in the highway?
The Makutano–Kenol highway has been under the spotlight due to recurring accidents.
Only last week, a lorry carrying cattle overturned on the same stretch, killing all the livestock on board.
In that case, witnesses reported that the vehicle had been speeding before losing control near Sagana.
Investigations into both accidents are now ongoing, with police urging motorists to exercise caution when using the highway.
Did road accidents claim 80 lives in four days?
The latest accident came just days after Kenya recorded one of its deadliest weekends on the roads.
At least 80 people were killed in a spate of crashes within four days, pushing the national road death toll this year to 2,933.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir confirmed the figures and said the government had begun an urgent safety review. A multi-agency team was dispatched to inspect high-risk roads, reconstruct accident scenes, and identify hazards that may have led to the tragedies.
Chirchir explained that the team would issue technical recommendations within a week to help reduce further loss of life. He also conveyed condolences to families affected by the crashes and wished a speedy recovery to survivors receiving treatment in hospitals.
