Due to the security situation posed by such a crucial game, NPS announced that some roads will be closed and will provide alternative diversions for motorists.
"Due to the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), the National Police Service wishes to inform the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi on Friday, 22 August 2025," NPS said in a notice.
Which roads will be closed on Friday?
NPS provided five traffic diversion routes, which will affect mostly motorists using the Thika Superhighway.
1. Motorists from Nairobi CBD heading to Thika Road (Ruiru/Juja/Thika) should use Kiambu Road at Exit 4; there will be a roadblock at Muthaiga
2. Vehicles using Thika Superhighway heading to Mwiki should use Ruaka-Baba Ndogo-Lucky Summer-Nairobi River-Mwiki.
3. Vehicles from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru heading to Nairobi CBD should use Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road; there will be a roadblock at Ruiru Interchange.
4. Vehicles from Githurai to Nairobi CBD should use Githurai 44- Kiambu Road.
5. Vehicles from Nairobi CBD heading to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Stadium (without vehicle access passes) should use the Service Lane at Exit 7 and Exit 8.
NPS urged all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow on the affected routes.
"The National Police Service continues to work collaboratively with relevant agencies and urges all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additional police officers have been deployed and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules," the notice stated.

How many fans will be allowed at Kasarani Stadium?
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sports requested CAF to review its earlier decision to limit the number of fans at Kasarani Stadium.
The continental football body had limited the capacity to 60% for all Harambee Stars' CHAN 2024 games.
CAF sanctioned Kenya following security breaches at CHAN 2024, forcing them to pay fines and warning that their matches would be relocated if the security issues were not addressed.
Fans forced their way into the stadium, some without tickets, overcrowding the venue and prompting CAF to cap ticket sales for the Zambia game at 27,000.
But after reviewing the request by the Kenyan government, CAF increased the limit to 80%, meaning 38,000 football fans will be allowed into the stadium.
