According to reports, the lorry was ferrying goods when a river broke its banks due to ongoing rainfall in the area, rendering the road impassable.

While other motorists and onlookers halted their journeys for fear of their lives, the driver courageously drove through the flooded road, gambling on his chances of reaching the other side safely.

Netizens react to Mandera driver in floods

Several netizens warned against glorifying such risky actions, urging drivers to prioritise their lives and the safety of those who depend on them over taking chances in hazardous conditions.

Edwin David Keya:

“Never try this again. It’s like Satan was busy somewhere else—he wasn’t concentrating. Otherwise, God is great.”

Kennedy Musyimi:

“This driver should be arrested.”

Isaac Kanyi Wangai:

“It’s carrying stones—that’s why it’s heavy. If it were empty, it would have been swept away. But me—I wouldn’t dare try this. Here, I take my hat off to the driver.”

“Only men can risk this way. Can’t imagine shaking hands with death.”

Sammy Kaihuri:

“But why? This was not a wise move. I hope it doesn’t ‘inspire’ someone else to try such a stunt. It may not end in laughter like this one.”

Peter Koome:

“This is very risky. The driver should go home, reflect on what he did, sit down with his family, and ask himself: What if?”

Evanz Lewiz:

“This is madness. How can someone risk both his life and his vehicle?”

Edward Odero:

“Who is that professional driver? I admire his courage—and that of the man cheering him on. He was a real motivator.”

Cyrus Mokaya:

“It’s an offence, honestly. Even if it were a passenger bus, would he have done the same? Let’s not glorify everything we do. People say, ‘Oh, it’s an FH, a Fuso,’ or ‘That’s a Scania.’ But tell me, if it were a Fuso Fighter, would it fight the water? Or would a Scania scan the river and understand the strength of the current? Drivers, we love you—but it’s better for the cargo to be delayed than for your family to bury you. You carry our hopes and the dreams of those who depend on you. Otherwise, Satan was swimming on the other side of the river—he dove deep but didn’t see you coming.
