Bungoma - Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has come to the aid of renowned Luhya musician Wanyonyi Omukoyi, who has been battling liver cirrhosis since December 2024.

Omukoyi, widely celebrated for his cultural music and praise songs often used during political campaigns, was diagnosed with the condition in March this year.

According to the musician, his treatment requires KSh 15,000 per dosage, and he needs three more doses before he can advance to the next stage of treatment.

“I have been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, and treatment is a bit expensive. One dosage is KSh 15,000, and I need three more before proceeding to the next stage,” Omukoyi told TUKO.co.ke during a previous interview.

How much did Natembeya give to Omukoyi?

Touched by the artist’s condition, Governor Natembeya visited Omukoyi at his home in Makhonge, Kabuchai, Bungoma county, and donated KSh 100,000 to support his treatment.

The governor described Omukoyi as a longtime friend and a musical icon whose contribution to the community should not be forgotten.

“I have paid a visit to my longtime friend and acclaimed musician who has been unwell in his Makhonge residency. I wish him well as he fights back,” Natembeya said.

The gesture has been lauded by Omukoyi’s fans and supporters, who have also called on more leaders to step in and assist the musician.

Many pointed out that politicians have long benefited from his praise songs during campaigns and now have an opportunity to give back.

Jackson Wamalwa, a supporter of Omukoyi, stated:

“Politicians are the beneficiaries of such artists. They use their songs during campaigns and should help when such people need assistance. Omukoyi is one good example.”

Calls for support continue to grow as the celebrated artist undergoes treatment, with many urging the public and political class to rally behind him during this difficult time.

In other news, a grieving family in Nakuru appealed to well-wishers for financial assistance to help clear a KSh 2.5 million hospital bill following the death of their loved one, Alexander Ritho Wangondu.

Ritho passed away on March 11, 2025, after a prolonged battle with a brain tumour compounded by a heart condition.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Ritho’s daughter, Jane Nyambura, shared details of her father’s health struggles, revealing that, in addition to the brain tumour, he had been diagnosed with hypertension arrhythmia, a condition marked by an abnormally low heart rate.
