"The family is distraught because this came suddenly and unexpectedly. They travelled from across the country to be with him, but they didn’t make it in time. It is a very big loss to us as a community and particularly to the people of Kasipul, who he loved dearly," said Wanga.

Moses Wetang'ula appoints Kaluma to lead Were's burial committee
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma revealed that he has been appointed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to lead a team of MPs coordinating the burial arrangements.
Kaluma, who had spent time with the late MP shortly before his assassination, acknowledged the emotional weight of the task.
“I am in that difficult position of leading the burial committee. This death has deeply affected Parliament, especially those of us who were with him just moments before. He had no known conflicts and was a joyful leader," Kaluma said.
He noted that Were served as vice chair of the committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunity and had earned respect from his colleagues.
Kaluma also appealed to investigative agencies to act swiftly and decisively.
“We ask the police to get to the bottom of this without delay. This was a painful, untimely, and shocking loss. But we must let justice take its course and leave the rest in God’s hands,” he said.
Investigations into the assassination are ongoing as the country awaits more details on the motive and suspects involved.
