Ten demonstrators were arrested, with police engaging residents in running battles.
Residents claimed the cop pushed Ali into the river, resulting in his death. A man who witnessed the incident allegedly disappeared, adding fuel to the fire.
The grieving mother demanded action against the officer.
Footage from the fracas showed a cop in full riot gear pursuing a woman wearing a red top and black, striped trousers.
"Get her," one of the cops shouted.
However, the athletic woman had other thoughts as she jumped over a ditch and ran.
The officer had difficulty jumping over the ditch, but was determined to arrest her. However, the woman had a head start, and he could not catch up.
Many Kenyans admired the woman’s athleticism, saying that she lived up to the region’s reputation of producing world-beating athletes.
