Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced the areas that will experience power outages on Thursday, May 8.

A statement on the utility company's website stated the disruptions are part of scheduled maintenance aimed at enhancing service for customers.

"It is necessary to interrupt supply periodically to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network; to connect new customers or to replace power lines during road construction," the statement read in part.

Which counties will experience power interruptions?

The power company said 11 counties will face disruptions lasting approximately six to eight hours.

Nairobi county

Area: Part of Lower Kabete (9 am-5 pm)

Lower Kabete Road, KSG, UON Lower Kabete, Mwimuto, NSSF, New Kitsuru Estate, Saunders Close and nearby customers.

Area: Whole of Kiambiu (9 am-5 pm)

All of Kiambiu and nearby customers.

Area: Part of Parklands, Wambugu (9 am-5 pm)

Wambugu Rd, Wambugu Inn & adjacent customers.

Area: Part of South C (9 am-5 pm)

Is Kenya Power setting up EV charging points?

At the same time, the utility company revealed it will roll out 45 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide over the next year to support the growth of e-mobility.

The new stations will be strategically located in counties such as Nairobi, Nyeri, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Mombasa, and Taita Taveta.

This initiative will expand on KPLC's current network of three charging stations, which are located at Stima Plaza and the company's headquarters.
