His mother, Scholastica Jesang, tearfully recalled the last time she saw her son, describing how she had prepared him for school and sent him off.
"My son left home after I had helped him put on his uniform," Jesang told Citizen TV.
The heartbroken mother recalled watching her son walk down the footpath, disappearing into the sugarcane plantation, unaware it would be the last time she saw him alive.
As evening neared, Jesang became worried when her seven-year-old son didn’t return home. She went to the school to inquire, only to find out he had never shown up that day.
"I had to go to the school to ask about my son's whereabouts. He never made it to school. He was wearing his full uniform, a yellow jacket, gumboots, and carrying a bag," she said.
Jesang said she reported the incident to the police before she and her neighbours launched a three-day search for Dennis, which tragically ended with the discovery of his body in a sugarcane plantation.
"We've never witnessed anything like this, where a Grade 1 student has been killed in such a way. They even cut his hand," a resident said.
Area OCPD Samwel Muli confirmed the incident, stating that investigations into the brutal murder of the child are underway.
"We are pleading with residents who have information about what happened to inform us so we can get to the bottom of this case," Muli said.
Residents are now urging the government to improve security in the area.
