"In an intelligence-led operation, detectives have apprehended Amos Barasa Kasili at Kibera Darajani area, linking him to the tragic shooting of the late Kasipul MP, Charles Ong’ondo Were, which occurred on April 30, 2025," the DCI statement read in part.

How was Amos Barasa Kasili arrested?

Detectives confirmed that Kasili was apprehended following forensic analysis that linked him to the primary suspect and positioned him at the scene of the crime on the day of the incident.

"After his arrest, Barasa was found with the motorcycle in question. Investigations revealed that Barasa is a repeat offender who pretends to be a Boda Boda operator, frequently working with armed criminal groups during their operations. In his interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the crime, explaining that he had been hired by the primary suspects and paid Ksh 50,000 as part of his compensation," the DCI added.

The DCI confirmed that the motorcycle recovered from Kasili matches the one seen in CCTV footage near Parliament.

Did Kenyans question DCI probe into Were's murder?

The DCI's disclosure has raised questions among some Kenyans about the number of individuals involved in Were's murder. Others claimed that the CCTV footage depicted a sports bike following Were before his death, not the motorcycle shown by the DCI.

Liang'o Nkang'a:

"How many times was Were killed?"

Jamie:

"Every day, new suspects, what's that which we don't know. The suspect crackdown is on another level compared to other cases!!!! Should we ask more questions?"

Pillows and Duvets:

"I thought they used a speed bike. Ama bajaaj ni speed bike?"

Douglas Orang'i:

"Ni wengi aje?"

Government critic:

"Is this a speed bike?????? It was on the news that a speed bike was used."

Peter Odhiambo:

"Surely kueni serious kidogo...Sasa mtu malnutrition atashoot mp...go for that big fish."

Vitalis Indeche:

"Oh no! Why surely, on a video I saw was a speed bike even new in a good condition 😀😀, surely mmeanzaa Tena."

The suspect, Isaac Kuria, also known as 'Kush,' was captured on Sunday, May 11, in Isebania, as he attempted to escape to Tanzania.

Investigators revealed that after the shooting, Kush went to a home in Mihango, where authorities recovered a pistol believed to have been used in the crime.

He then travelled by motorbike to Narok and later took a public bus to Isebania, where he sought refuge while awaiting a relative from Tanzania who was allegedly going to help him illegally cross the border.

DCI detectives, who had been tracking his communications with other individuals already in custody, located and arrested him at his hideout. Another suspect believed to have assisted him was also taken into custody.
