“Yesterday, while we were compiling uncollected bursary cheques, Mheshimiwa called one of our senior colleagues and said he was being chased by five Subaru cars. We abandoned everything to try and follow, but we couldn’t catch up,” an eyewitness recounted.

His driver was reportedly intercepted at gunpoint, taken to the DCI headquarters, and later released the same night.

Koimburi’s legal team and supporters have condemned the incident, terming it unlawful and politically motivated.

Did the court bar police from arresting Koimburi?

Advocate Stephen Mbugua accused the police of violating a court order that barred any attempt to arrest the MP.

The order, issued in February by Justice Abigail Mshila of the Kiambu High Court, followed forgery-related charges filed against the MP at the Kiambu Law Courts.

“Unfortunately, this government is blatantly disregarding a court order issued in our application dated February 28, 2025,” Mbugua stated. “He was being trailed by unidentified plainclothes officers since yesterday, and up to now, we do not know his whereabouts.”

Meanwhile, Juja residents, many of whom had gathered at Juja Farm expecting the lawmaker to address them during the bursary issuance ceremony, have expressed growing concern over the MP's whereabouts.

“We spent the day peacefully, but toward the end, things became unclear. We don’t know if he left with the police or what really happened. We need clarification, because we haven’t seen him on the ground, and we’re used to him addressing us during bursary disbursements,” a resident said.

The locals also criticised the use of what they described as “state machinery” to intimidate and harass elected leaders, urging security agencies to respect due process and summon individuals for questioning instead of conducting dramatic arrests.
