The discussion came against a backdrop of increasing attacks, particularly targeting local businessmen.
When asked to address the growing insecurity, Arama downplayed the matter.

“The issue of people being killed at times becomes normal,” he stated. “It’s not something we can say that security is bad in Nakuru. I can say the security in Nakuru is perfect, and those are just isolated cases.”
His comments quickly drew criticism from the public, with many accusing him of being insensitive to victims and their families.
The MP, however, defended his position by noting that the police had already identified the individual behind the recent killings.
“In all the cases, we have found out it’s one criminal involved, and we even know his name. The police have told us who he is, and they are continuing to pursue him,” he said.
Arama added that he had met with the county police commander to discuss strategic interventions aimed at improving security in Nakuru.

However, he also shifted some of the blame to systemic challenges within the Ministry of Interior.
“These cars we are saying should be everywhere, there is no money for the Ministry of Interior. Lawmakers cut the budget and it becomes a challenge,” he explained. “We as legislators should ensure favourable laws to increase funding for the Ministry.”
He also defended Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, attributing some of the ministry’s shortcomings to his recent appointment.
“The Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen is new. He took the docket the other day. It seems he has a problem because he’s new and he’s still trying to find his way,” Arama said.

As part of his security proposals, the lawmaker suggested scrapping police patrol cars and mandating foot patrols instead, particularly in informal settlements.
“Like in my constituency, it will be easier for police officers to patrol on foot. I prefer we abolish the cars so that the officers can walk. In slum areas, officers often misuse vehicles when given access to them,” he added.
