"The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been drawn to reports circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Grace Nduta Wairimu. We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu, MCA representing Kanyenya-ini ward in Murang'a County, was arrested today, May 29, as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon George Koimburi," DCI statement read in part.
In a statement dated Thursday, May 29, the DCI said investigations contradicted Nduta’s claims that she was in Kangema attending church services and political rallies.
Instead, they found she was with Koimburi on the night of May 25, the day he was reportedly abducted.
"It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night," the DCI said.
Nduta’s family members expressed their belief that her arrest was politically motivated.
They suggested that Nduta’s vocal support for Gachagua may have been a key factor in the decision to detain her.
They voiced concerns that the charges against her could be an attempt to silence or intimidate her due to her affiliations and views.
