The decision marks a historic first for the lakeside county, which has never hosted the prestigious annual forum before. The 2024 edition was held in Uasin Gishu County.
A landmark moment for Homa Bay
In a past address, Governor Gladys Wanga described the selection as a “landmark moment” for Homa Bay and a recognition of its growing role in Kenya’s devolution journey.
“We look forward to welcoming you all to the Bay of endless potential and are grateful for the opportunity,” she said.
Wanga emphasised that beyond the immediate economic gains, ranging from increased demand for accommodation, food, and transport, the event would also elevate Homa Bay’s visibility on the national stage.
“It is also a prime opportunity to spotlight Homa Bay’s natural wonders, cultural treasures, and tourism gems on a national platform,” she added.
The governor urged residents to embrace the event as a chance to showcase their hospitality and culture.
“We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the CoG for this recognition. Get ready for a week of enlightening knowledge exchange and dynamic connections with delegates from every corner of our nation,” Wanga stated.
Kahiga noted that the upcoming edition will include partner-led side events and adopt global best practices to elevate the conference experience.
A scientific committee will be established to vet partner proposals, ensuring high-quality programming.
To further streamline the experience, delegate registration will be fully digitised, and a modern conference website and mobile app will be deployed. These platforms will provide logistical details, registration access, and curated cultural and tourism experiences.
The national government has also pledged full support, with Principal Secretary for Devolution Teresia Mbaika noting the collaborative nature of devolution.
