Nairobi: Driver of Car in William Ruto’s Motorcade That Allegedly Killed British National Charged

The fatal incident, according to a charge sheet seen by TUKO.co.ke, occurred along Ngong Road near Adams Arcade.
According to the charge sheet presented in court, Maina, who was allegedly behind the wheel of a Toyota Prado that killed the British national, is accused of operating the vehicle in a manner deemed dangerous to other road users.
The prosecution argued that despite being aware of the nature, condition, and traffic levels of the road, the driver, a police officer, drove recklessly, resulting in the fatal collision.
“On the 13th day of March 2025, at about 12:30 hrs along Ngong Road near Adams Arcade within Nairobi county, being the driver of a motor vehicle, make Toyota Prado, drove the said vehicle along the said road in a manner that was dangerous…,” read part of the charge sheet.
“…having to all circumstances, nature and condition of the road and amount of the traffic which was expected to be on the road at that time and knocked one pedestrian who succumbed to the injuries on the spot,” it added.
Maina denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of KSh 150,000.

How Ruto's speeding motorcade hit a pedestrian in Nairobi
TUKO.co.ke previously reported that an eyewitness vividly described events that led to the foreign national being hit by one of the vehicles in President Ruto's speeding motorcade.
The witness said the elderly man, whose identity was later revealed, was crossing the road when the accident happened.
He described the incident as grim and pointed out that despite hitting the elderly man, the vehicles failed to stop. Some locals who witnessed the incident rushed to help as the man lay motionless in a pool of blood.
Police said the driver of the car involved in the accident had been arrested and later released on cash bail.
