A family in Matayos, Busia county, is grateful after their son, who was allegedly kidnapped, managed to escape from his abductors.

The Grade Seven pupil at Esirisia Primary School reportedly fled from the unknown individuals who had taken him.

The young boy said the men covered his face with a cloth and dragged him into a car, where he lost consciousness—only to wake up far from home.

How did Grade 7 pupil escape from kidnappers in Busia?

He shared that the men had taken him to a house deep inside a forest, where he found seven other boys working on a maize farm.

The boy narrated that he managed to crawl out through a hole he had dug beneath the wire fence surrounding the compound where they were being held.

Busia father recounts learning of his son’s ordeal

The boy’s father, Vincent Barasa, said he received a phone call from an unknown person informing him that his son was in Mundika.

“I was shocked and asked who they were talking about. They then gave him the phone, and he told me he had been kidnapped by some people who took him to the forest,” he recounted.

Upon receiving the call, the worried father rushed to Mundika on a motorbike and found his son recounting the ordeal to a group of locals in the town centre.

David Osauna, a concerned villager, noted that there have been several incidents of strangers attempting to lure children in the area using sweets.

“Most of them have been lucky. These people target children on their way from school and park their vehicles nearby to entice them,” Osauna said.

Isaa Mahamu, the area police commander, said the culprits often use unofficial routes, commonly referred to as panya routes, to carry out their illegal activities.

“They traffic through routes near the border with Uganda, South Sudan, and Libya. They rarely face problems as they are highly experienced traffickers,” he stated.

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a Tanzanian father expressed immense joy after reuniting with his seven-year-old son who had been kidnapped.

Johnstone Elisha said the kidnapper called and demanded a ransom of KSh 2.4 million, warning that failure to pay would result in harm to the young boy.
