Gunfire, panic, and wailing filled the air as chaos swept through Lolkuruk village as residents scampered for safety.

When calm briefly returned, the community was left counting its dead and rushing the wounded to Lolgorian Sub-county Hospital and other nearby facilities.

The victims sustained serious chest and torso injuries, with some requiring transfer to Tenwek Mission Hospital for urgent care.

"Our children have been shot over nonsense. Some have been taken to Tenwek right now. They’re trying to take our land from us," a visibly shaken resident said at Lolgorian Sub-county Hospital.

How did chaos erupt in Narok?

The disputed land spans approximately 800 acres and includes a prominent hotel situated near the game reserve.

Locals say the land is tied to a former local politician, but they insist it was unlawfully acquired and should be returned to the community.

Tensions escalated when youths, claiming ancestral ownership, entered the property.

In response, police officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) and Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) were deployed to evict them.

What followed was a violent crackdown that has since drawn widespread condemnation from residents.

"Look now they've shot our children, we are right now in Lolgorian. They shot our children. Why? This is so painful," the resident added, tears visible in her eyes.

Community members are now demanding accountability from authorities and answers from security officials who led the operation.

The deployment of heavily armed units, they argue, escalated the situation rather than resolving it.

"We want the county commissioner, the police commander, to tell us why are the police killing our people? Why are the government shooting our people? We cannot agree. This is so painful for us," said the local, struggling to hold back emotion.
