Kirinyaga Congregants Puzzled as Thieves Break into Church, Steal Wine and Items Worth KSh 700k

The pastor and congregants of ACK All Saints Church in Gatwe, Kirinyaga county, are in shock after robbers broke into the church and made away with several valuable items.

The thieves vandalised the house of God, drank sacramental wine, ate the communion bread, and stole items worth an estimated KSh 700,000.

Church workers discovered that the door had been forcefully opened.

What did the thieves steal at the Kirinyaga church?

David Warui, a reverend at the church, reported that the thieves broke into the church office and stole five bottles of wine.

"They then moved inside the church, unmounted the screens we usually use during service, and also raided the strong room, where they took a mixer," said Reverend Warui.

He described the incident as a strange occurrence and prayed that the culprits would change their ways, noting that stealing, especially from the house of God, was wrong and displeasing to the Lord.

Moreover, the robbers allegedly tied up the church guard, leaving him restrained inside the building for several hours before he was rescued.

"They also took a laptop and other small items from the church before proceeding to steal money and wine from the pastor's office," said Cyrus Njue, a congregant.

Njue added that the suspects even took the bottle that had contained the watchman’s tea.

Another congregant, Rose Kabue, expressed disbelief at the incident.

"I have never heard of such an occurrence. I prayed to God to protect us, as this was not a good sign, and the suspects are inviting curses upon their households," she said.

David Kimenju, another congregant, stated that it was unfortunate that the thieves had progressed from stealing from homes to robbing churches, adding that such cases had become far too common.

According to Citizen TV, this was the fifth reported church robbery in the county within a span of three months.

Police have launched investigations into the rising number of robberies targeting places of worship, with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Thieves steal equipment worth KSh 300k from a Kirinyaga church

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that robbers broke into the Anglican Church of Kenya in Gichugu, Kirinyaga and made away with equipment after a Sunday service.

A congregant reported that the suspects took speakers, cables, sound mixers, and padlocks worth KSh 300,000.

A resident of Gichugu living near the church alerted them to the incident and one of the church elders noted that this was not an isolated case.

The elder added that another ACK-affiliated church in the area had also been vandalised and robbed of valuable property.
