Trans Nzoia: 17-Year-Old Boy Found Dead Two Weeks after Dropping Out of School

Police officers in Trans Nzoia county are investigating an incident where the lifeless body of a 17-year-old boy was discovered by the roadside.

The boy, who has since been identified as Lewis Simiyu, is said to have recently dropped out of school.
Matisi sub-location assistant chief, Moses Wamalwa, told TUKO.co.ke that the body was discovered on Thursday, June 19, by Chetoto Junior Secondary School students as they were heading to school.

"The students came to my home with reports that they had seen a badly damaged body of an unknown person. When we went there, we established that it was Simiyu,” Wamalwa said.

The local administrator noted that the boy was a Form Two student at Kabula Secondary School in Bungoma county but dropped out about two weeks ago.
It is suspected he had joined a group of local criminal gangs which have been terrorising residents of the larger Matisi area.
According to the assistant chief, the deceased's mother had already reported that she had not seen him for two weeks.
“The boy’s mother, Irene Nekesa, recently reported that he was missing. We suspect he had joined a gang behind a series of robberies around the Matisi area,” the assistant chief said.
The body was later picked up by police officers, and it was taken to the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital for preservation as a probe into the circumstances under which he died commenced.

The incident occurred just a day after the dismembered body of an unknown woman was discovered in the Baharini dam within Kiminini constituency.
Reports indicate that the woman’s head, legs and arms are still missing.
Investigations are underway to establish the person who might have murdered the woman, estimated to be under 25 years old. So far, one suspect has been arrested.
Meanwhile, following a rise in the cases of crime in Trans Nzoia, the county police commander, Paul Wambugu, told the press that his officers have mounted serious security patrols to arrest and charge all the suspects.

However, the police boss called on members of the public, especially those in hotspot areas, to cooperate with law enforcement officers by providing information that would ensure culprits are arrested.
"We can only win this war if we work closely with civilians. It’s my appeal to locals to come out and give us information about all the suspects, and we shall treat it with the confidentiality it deserves. Nobody will be exposed for doing so," Wambugu assured.
19-year-old kills woman in Trans Nzoia
Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a 19-year-old man had been arrested in Trans Nzoia county over the death of a 46-year-old woman.
The young man is alleged to have killed the woman after he stole maize from her house while in the company of other people.
Reports indicate the man committed the heinous act after suspecting the woman might have known he was among those who stole from her.
